Pool water loss in Dubai is genuinely tricky to diagnose, because evaporation in summer removes a substantial amount on its own.
First: is it actually a leak?
The bucket test settles this. Fill a bucket with pool water, mark the level inside, place it on a pool step so it is partly submerged, and mark the pool level too. Leave the pump running normally for 24 hours. Both should drop by the same amount if it is evaporation. If the pool drops more, you have a leak.
Where the level stops tells you a lot
If the water stabilises at the skimmer, the leak is likely at the skimmer. If it stops at a light fitting, suspect that fitting. If it keeps falling below all fittings, the shell or main drain is involved.
The common leak points
Skimmers crack where the plastic meets the concrete. Light fittings leak around the conduit. Main drains fail at the seal. Shell cracks develop from settlement. Circulation plumbing leaks underground, often showing as soggy ground nearby.
How detection works
Dye testing confirms shell and fitting leaks — dye released near a suspected point is drawn into the leak visibly. Pressure testing isolates the circulation and return lines. Acoustic equipment locates buried plumbing leaks from the surface.
Do not drain the pool
Draining a pool to inspect it can cause serious structural damage, particularly where ground water is high. Nearly all detection is performed with the pool full.
